Reading
Our class will be using the Wonders Reading program to meet our fourth grade ELA standards. This is our first year using this program and we are very excited to be learning this program together.
Students will be required to keep a weekly reading log. They must read 4 sessions for at least 20 minutes per session. Students are also required to complete the written response for each session.

Math
Any incoming fourth graders should work on their multiplication and division facts. Students should be fluent with facts 0-12.
This year we are using Bridges in Mathematics, a K–5 math program that will help us meet the new standards and make math meaningful and exciting. In fourth grade, students focus on multiplication and division with multi-digit numbers, fractions, and geometry. Throughout the year they:
❚ Find factors and multiples of different numbers
❚ Compare fractions and break fractions into smaller parts
❚ Compare decimal numbers and find decimal and fraction equivalents
❚ Develop efficient strategies for multiplying and dividing multi-digit numbers
❚ Calculate area and volume
❚ Measure and draw angles using protractors
Students will be given a pre-assessment and post assessment for each unit. I will give a one week notice for the post assessment. Students can use their Student Book and Home Connection pages along with the pre-assessment to help them prepare for any tests.
Science
Students will be working through many different units throughout our school year: The Scientific Process, Earth Changes Fast and Slow, Energy and Electricity, Matter including physical and chemical changes in matter, and Fossils. Students will be keeping all handouts, reference sheets, and activities in their Science Binder. I will give one week notice for any unit test along with a study guide to help students prepare for the test.
Writing
Students will be asked to write daily prompts in their Writing Journal. These prompts will not be graded, but used to conference on a bi-weekly basis to help improve each student's writing.
Daily Language Review(DLR) - These skill sheets will be used to help improve spelling and grammar. We will work on DLR the second and fourth week of each month.
Writing Pieces- Students will create more formal writing pieces working on Narrative writing, Informative writing and Persuasive writing. Students will work through the steps of the writing process as they work toward their published piece.
